The winter transfer market is typically a time of intense rumour and possible big-money transfers. A number of prominent players find themselves linked with moves out of their present teams. We examine some of the key names who could be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to reach the AFCON, which has left the forward in contention, reports suggest a major transfer is imminent. This 25-year-old has a contract featuring a sizeable release clause active for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his services. Other interested parties such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to alternative options, leaving clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late bid.

M. Guéhi

The England centre-back has continued to excel for Palace this season a summer transfer to Anfield collapsing. With his deal set to expire in the summer, January is the club's last chance to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, including City and several European giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a January exit remains difficult, particularly given the coach's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Wales winger has found starting opportunities limited at Spurs this campaign. Although being the club's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun just a handful of Premier League games. It is understood the North London outfit would be willing to consider a sale for the correct price, believed to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese playmaker could be poised for a return to the English top flight after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now only twenty-eight, while his agreement ending in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential opportunity. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spain that he would be prepared to accept a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barça under new manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had surgery, a January departure looks increasingly likely. Aston Villa were once linked as a potential suitor, but that move currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

The prolific England striker has kept finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling hopes of being in the national World Cup. But, securing a transfer poses major hurdles. His current club do not wish to sell him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages make any agreement difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been linked as interested parties.

Conor Gallagher

This dynamic English midfielder attracted widespread attention in the off-season but stayed at Atlético Madrid. With limited starting appearances in La Liga this season, he may be eager to find more minutes ahead of the tournament. Manchester United have been heavily connected, and a move back to Crystal Palace, a club he shone on loan, is also a option, although wage demands could be a stumbling block.

H. Elliott

Although excelling and being named player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, the talented player has struggled for minutes during his loan spell at Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the loan move will not be made permanent. Due to FIFA regulations about representing multiple teams in a season, a move back to Liverpool before next season appears to be the only viable outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkish forward is in fine form for the Italian giants this season. As his existing contract running down, a host of English sides – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a race to keep one of the continent's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

The much-admired Netherlands midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ side. The 19-year-old is widely expected to make a major transfer in January. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but could face strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at around £22 million.
